Discipline
⚔️ Warriors,
Do you want to accomplish more in life?
Do you want to become the best version of yourself?
Do you want to take your life to a place you never thought existed?
Then you need to practice DISCIPLINE!
Every week in the Mental Warrior newsletter we break down the quotes from modern-day Mental Warriors that are posted on the Mental Warrior social media pages.
In this episode of the Mental Warrior, we break down world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson’s quote on discipline.

For those that don’t know - “Iron” Mike Tyson is a 6-time world heavyweight boxing champion with a record of 50 wins (44 by knockout), 6 losses, and 2 no contests.
Mike is someone you do not want to mess with. But, he is someone you want to learn from.
At just 13 years old, Mike started boxing and at 18 he made his professional debut.
If you want to learn how to become a Mental Warrior (and a physical one), Mike is your man.
This quote from Mike is one of the greatest definitions of what discipline means:
“Discipline is doing what you don’t want to do, but do it like you love it.”
Mindblowing 🤯
Mike goes on and breaks it down even more:
“You cannot accomplish a high level of professional degree if you have any emotional feelings. I could never think cautiously in this ring and be angry. I would never be successful. I was disciplined and it was my job to win, spectacularly.”
You Must Practice Discipline
To Become a Champion
If you want to be great, you have to put in the work, and practicing discipline helps you put in the work.
You might not “feel” like doing something today and you “feel” like you lack discipline. The truth is, feelings fade but discipline always remains.
Willpower will only go so far, but discipline lasts forever.
All the great warriors and successful people of our time have a common trait - they consistently show up. They don’t let feelings, emotions, thoughts, or life get in the way of accomplishing whatever goal they are working on. Practicing discipline allows them to block out the noise and stay focused on where they want to go.
If you want to be successful you MUST have a vision of what you want to be and where you want to go. You have to be able to visualize it and tell yourself “I already accomplished this goal, time just has to catch up”. Discipline is the tool in your toolbox to help you focus on and accomplish your goals.
How Do We Build Discipline?
Let’s be honest, practicing discipline is not EASY! However, this is exactly why we need to practice it. Because anything worth having takes real time and effort to get it.
Great people do great things.
Gold medalists train 10 hours a day 6 days a week for YEARS to get the gold. However, they didn’t start on day one training 10 hours a day.
How did they build discipline and stamina? Through consistent repetition every day thus building momentum.
Momentum is the key!
Don’t overwhelm yourself and get ahead of yourself - start small first.
Pick one thing you want to work on, one thing you can spend 30 minutes to an hour doing EVERY DAY. The key is it is something you can do consistently. Maybe it’s going to the gym, maybe it’s reading more, maybe it’s only eating certain foods.
Give yourself 30 days of doing this one thing every day. Get a calendar or use your phone and every night track your progress. After 30 days look back at your progress. If you don’t hit every day that’s ok, don’t beat yourself up.
But the more consistent you are, the more confident you become in yourself. Your momentum will push you forward and show you who you really are and what you are truly capable of!
It takes a little bit of consistency every day to build up your discipline.
And a little bit of discipline goes a long way.
